Our History

Started in 1941, Carl and Virginia Pearlstein began the business by selling bulbs out of the back of their station wagon. Today, Nurserymen's Exchange has grown into one of the largest wholesalers of indoor blooming plants, specialty foliage, and packaged plants in the nation, offering a broad range of innovative products year round.

Much of Nurserymen’s Exchange’s early success can be attributed to Carl’s deep understanding of consumer needs and his passion for delivering innovative products to his customers. He understood the importance of offering variety, color and decorative container choices, and added many blooming plants to his growing portfolio, creating the BloomRite® brand. A student of the market, Carl continually predicted and spotted consumer trends and created new channels for distribution of potted plants and flowers.

Jack Pearlstein and Gail Hollingsworth inherited their father’s knack for innovation and continued Carl and Virginia’s core values while transforming Nurserymen’s Exchange into the modern company it is today. They constructed state of the art greenhouse growing facilities, developed relationships with internationally renowned breeder partners and expanded production into Florida to supplement the tropical plants product portfolio.

As the business continued to grow and evolve, Jack and Gail created a marketing team to analyze emerging trends, provide expertise and leadership in color direction, decorative materials and textures as well as a comprehensive understanding of consumer needs. They built a national sales team to serve a broad range of customers nationwide and created a supply chain management team to drive purchasing and logistic activities ensuring nearly flawless distribution of many products across the country.

Today, Nurserymen's Exchange leads the industry as one of the largest wholesalers of indoor blooming plants, specialty foliage, and packaged plants. We pride ourselves on our horticultural excellence and inspired design which is evidenced in every one of our Bloomrite® branded products. By leveraging our broad spectrum of innovative products with marketing expertise, our national sales team offers retail customers full ornamental plant and category management solutions nationwide throughout the year.
